ONCOLOGY ESTHETICS

Research has found that Esthetic school curricula does not adequately prepare Estheticians to safely treat clients with cancer, or those undergoing cancer therapies, in a spa setting. They are mostly taught to refuse treatment. While persons with cancer and those undergoing cancer therapies should be permitted to receive spa treatments, they should be treated by licensed Aestheticians who have gone beyond the basic education and have specialized in the field of Oncology.

Cancer statistics are increasing and more and more spa's are opening up. Cancer clients are being offered gift certificates to spa's and are sick for 3 days after. Most clients with cancer are not even asked about their health and medical history.

During cancer treatments and the recovery period, which can last up to a year or longer, the body needs all the strength it has to heal instead of fighting more stressors such as vigorous, aggressive spa treatments. Adjustments should be made so that clients with cancer or undergoing cancer therapies can enjoy their spa treatments. A healing touch through spa treatments reduces pain, mood disturbance (anger, anxiety, depression, confusion) and fatigue in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy as well as supports the body's ability to heal.

After losing a family member and dear friend to cancer, Mica decided to specialize in Oncology Esthetics to lavish upon a healing touch for those with cancer or undergoing cancer therapies. She is certified in Oncology Esthetics and trained to provide spa treatments that nurture, reduce stress and anxiety, comfort and rejuvenate. All products used are safe and suitable for use on persons with cancer and those undergoing treatment.
